Got skills? We need you!

This web site is an open invitation – especially to qualified carpenters and scaffolders – to work with the Alberta Regional Council of Carpenters (ARC) and our unionized employer partners as we enjoy the benefits of the world’s largest construction boom.

Currently in Edmonton and Northern Alberta, more than $150 Billion worth of oil sands plants, bitumen upgraders and other petrochemical-related projects are either underway or in the planning process.

Recently, some of these projects were delayed or placed on hold, but they are slowly ramping back up to the point where we expect to be quite busy into 2012 and following years.

The construction phases of these projects extend over many years. And afterward, there’ll be lots of regular maintenance and repair-related work to do.

Demand can be high!

When the oil sands industry is building, there is very high demand from employers for skilled journeyman scaffolders and carpenters. As usual in the construction business, demand fluctuates from time to time, but current projections show things looking better than ever for our members in heavy industrial construction, industrial maintenance and commercial construction.

The carpentry/scaffolding locals of the ARC have more than 7,500 members.

Please think about joining us !

Even during times our employers are not demanding more people than we have in our normal membership, we still have lots of members who retire or leave the trades. So we’re still looking for new members that we can call on when we need them – especially experienced journeymen scaffolders and carpenters with Alberta or Interprovincial Red Seal certification, or with equivalent British, Irish or German certification.

If you’ve got time on the job and the right heavy-carpentry or industrial scaffolding skills, we’d love to welcome you into our union, regardless of whether you’re currently working non-union or you are represented by a non-Building Trades labour organization.

Please read through this web site. You’ll see we’re well paid, and protected by great pension and benefit plans. If you’re interested in working alongside skilled union members, fill out the form on the Join Us! page and let us know of your interest.

Other Trade?

We also represent Roofers, Interior Systems Mechanics, Floor Layers and Shop Workers. Demand for these trades isn’t as high as for scaffolders and carpenters. Please see the Employer Demand/Our Trades page for more detail.
