For those of you who may not be familiar with unions, it’s important to understand that the union does not employ you directly.
Instead, we’re the go-between. We connect you with jobs that our unionized employers have available for our members to ‘bid’ for.
Employers tell us what jobs they have available, what skills or special training the jobs require, where they are and for how long the jobs will last. We post that information on our ‘job board’ which members access by phone or on the web.
Some of the jobs offered on the board turn out to be very long-lasting, but the vast majority involve projects that vary between a week and a year or so.
These days, employer demand is somewhat reduced from the extremely high levels we experienced in 2007 and the first half of 2008. CURRENTLY, THERE IS NO WORK AVAILABLE FOR NON-MEMBERS.
But in time, we will still periodically need new members to replace retiring members, and, when construction begins to 'heat up', to fill demand that existing members cannot fulfill.
At this time, there is not high demand for Interior Systems Mechanics, Floor Layers and Roofers.
Regardless of which of the crafts we represent that you're in, please feel free to tell us you’re interested in joining at some future date. If we have your contact information, we can call or email you in advance to let you know when we expect demand for your skills.
