Training and Safety: Nothing's more important

Above everything else, UBC Saskatchewan is wholly dedicated to the safety of its members, and to the career-long improvement of their skills.

If you haven't 'worked union' before, you have no idea yet just how safe a worksite can be, and how good it feels to be part of a whole team of people who not only look out for themselves 100% of the time, but who also constantly protect the safety of their brothers and sisters.

The key is that our members aren't the only ones who believe in safety. Our employers share our concern for the welfare of their employees, and they work very closely with us to ensure full focus on worker safety.

Train to stay the best!

No other construction union invests more in training than the UBC. North America-wide, we spend more than $200 million a year developing training programs and teaching skills to our members.

In Saskatchewan we have training centres in both Saskatoon and Regina. We have one full-time trainer and 5 part-timers, all of whom have received world class train-the-trainer mentoring at our $80 million Las Vegas International Training Centre.

None of our members is charged a penny for training and/or safety courses. That goes for formal apprenticeship training as well!

We're planning to build a new training centre in Saskatoon that will include a 7,000 square-foot carpentry/scaffolding shop, and a 4,000 square foot shop for our fellow members, Local 1021's millwrights.

Our scaffolding training program is Saskatchewan's only source of scaffolding training. Our 4-year Apprenticeship program is formally recognized by the Saskatchewan Apprenticeship and Trade Certification Commission.
