Global demand is skyrocketing for Saskatchewan's rich natural resources, including oil and gas, potash, uranium and other minerals. Huge companies are investing billions in upgrading and significantly expanding 30-year-old plants, and building new ones.
Last time we looked, there was $14 billion worth of mining construction, $5 billion in oil and gas projects, $4 billion in power plant projects and $12 billion in commercial/industrial/manufacturing and infrastructure projects. That's $35 billion worth of work happening in a province of just over a million people… not bad!
Every one of those projects needs carpenters and scaffolders and allied workers, and they'll need our members for maintenance and turnaround work for decades to come. Along the way, more of our older members will retire, further brightening the future for younger skilled people who want steady, reliable work here in Saskatchewan.
