When our employers are happy with our skills, there’s more demand for our members – and more income and security for them and their families!
That’s why Millwrights Local 1460 offers top-level training in a wide range of skills.
That’s also why all of our training courses (and any associated travel and accommodation) are free to members – even the ones we offer at the amazing $67.6 million UBC International Training Centre in Las Vegas!
Here are some of the training and upgrading courses that are available to you, absolutely free, as a member of our Local:
The Alberta Regional Council of Carpenters (of which we are a member) recently opened a stunning new $21 million Provincial Training and Administration Centre in Edmonton, and a significant part of it is dedicated to Alberta's first permanent Millwright Training Centre.
The Alberta Millwright Training Centre features a modern, multi-million-dollar hydrogen gas compressor donated to us by Petro-Canada. We're also equipped with state-of-the-art millwrighting equipment, classrooms and an expert team of highly-experienced trainers. Our teaching technique focuses on 'students' individually performing work order tasks (as opposed to a 'tear-it-down, put-it-together' approach) so when they use their new skills, they do so with confidence.
We’ll still be sending some of our members to Las Vegas for more complex courses. There, they’ll work with other Millwrights from all over North America, learning front-edge skills from highly qualified instructors. The Millwright Training Program at the Las Vegas Centre is so highly regarded that we have training partnerships with the likes of General Electric and Siemens-Westinghouse. When Alstom Power and Hitachi build in Alberta, we supply the skills.
